A Simplified Guide to Registration of Marriage (ROM) In Singapore

After the excitement of the surprise, and the proposal has subsided, it's time to focus on the more important parts of your future union, such as registering your marriage at the Registry of Marriages (ROM) and also doing rom photography. Before you take the next step, check out our guide to registering your marriage for all the information you need!

Submit a Marriage Application

At the Registry of Marriages website or the onsite Internet kiosks at the ROM office or Citizen Connect Centers, you must first apply for a marriage (CCC).

But be aware that you must do so at least 21 days or up to three months before the solemnization date to be eligible. For more information on the earliest and latest dates for filing a Notice of Marriage, see the ROM's website.

Marriage Application Requirements

Get all the necessary paperwork and information before beginning the process of submitting your marriage application.

  1. Two witnesses over the age of 21 must-have NRICs or, if they are foreigners, their passports, as well as the couple's NRICs.

  2. A list of the event's date, time, and location (for solemnization at a venue outside of ROM) with an air of reverence.

  3. Your solemnizer's name and license number.

  4. A "Solemnizer Consent Paper" form must be filled out and signed by a certified solemnizer (for solemnization at a venue outside of ROM).

  5. To pay for notifications submitted at ROM's electronic kiosks, you may use your credit card or NETS/Cashcard.

If you're being married somewhere other than ROM, you'll need to print a copy of the payment receipt, the filing instructions, and the "Invitation to Solemnize a Marriage" form. In addition to the checklist supplied by ROM, there is also a guide to aid you with your registration procedure.

Verification of Documents and Stipulations of the Law

One to fourteen working days before the day of your marriage solemnization, you will be required to appear at the Registry of Marriages for the verification of your papers and the statutory declaration. Both the bride and the groom must be in attendance. An appointment by video connection is an option for those who have chosen it, and they will get an email with all of their pre-filled papers and a video link before their scheduled session.

What You Need in ROM and Outside ROM for a Solemnization

Given the present COVID-19 scenario, you are encouraged to examine and follow any attendance control and safety management procedures for solemnizations. Only the bride and groom, together with their two witnesses, are needed to be present for wedding ceremonies in the ROM building. There is a solemnizer allocated to you on that day, so you don't need to bring your own. A copy of your NRIC or passport is required for the solemnization ceremony, as well as two witnesses. Once you've been declared man and wife, the ceremony will conclude in around 10 minutes.

You will need to choose a licenced solemnizer of your choosing and receive his or her permission to solemnise your marriage by signing a consent form before the day of the solemnization. Your solemnise, your groom, and two witnesses must all be present on the day of your wedding ceremony for the solemnization to take place. As part of your document verification and statutory declaration appointments, you'll need to give over to your solemniser the paperwork you and your groom obtained from ROM, as well as the originals of your NRICs or passports and those of two witnesses.

Your solemnizer will return the white-coloured Certificate of Marriage to ROM after the solemnization and signing of the marriage certificate, and the newlyweds will get a copy of the Certificate of Marriage (coloured copy).

The people and paperwork needed for video link ceremonies or rom photography are the same. Aside from the need to transmit their separate white copies of the signed marriage certificate to ROM through email (scanned or JPEG), there are no other differences between a traditional and a remote wedding. Use the pre-paid envelopes to return all white original copies of the signed marriage certificate to ROM. When the ROM gets all the white copies signed by both parties, your marriage will be registered. They will then send you a coloured marriage certificate signed by the solemnizer, which you may keep. For the time being, ROM will store all of the other copies (the white ones).

Search for a solemnization place

It's time to begin searching for a suitable location to exchange your vows once you've completed all the essential papers for your impending solemnization. In our complete selection of Singapore solemnization venues, you are sure to discover your ideal place, whether you are looking for a cosy and personal setting or a unique area by the seaside, waterfront or delightfully ensconced in lots of greenery.

Outside of ROM, confirm a Licensed Solemniser for Your Solemnisation.

When being married anywhere other than ROM, couples are responsible for finding and booking their legal solemniser.

When booking your solemnizer, you should do it at least three months in advance, but if your solemnizer happens to be popular, you may want to inquire about its availability and reserve its services more than three months in advance. Bookings made less than a week in advance could be declined.

Conclusion

You and your prospective husband will sign the Certificates of Marriage during the ceremony with the solemniser. Finally, your wedding solemnization is complete and your marriage will be recognised as legitimate in Singapore.
